Ponds in Derby

There are currently > 100 ponds inside the city's boundary, and many of them have a DCPWA pond warden.

In 2004/2005 Derby City Council funded a survey of the city ponds, and most are being re-surveyed from 2010 as part of our Wild About Ponds project. On being surveyed, each pond is given a PSYM score, which is a standard assessment of the ecological quality of the pond.

The PSYM (pronounced sim) is a standard assessment of the ecological quality of a pond. Its calculation is based on environmental information such as pH, and the identification of plants and invertebrates found at the site.
